ATE Trailer Security and Safety

At ATE UK, we want to help ensure your trailer is safe on the roads and secure when unattended. We can make your trailer more visible to other road users and less attractive to thieves with our extensive range of trailer security and safety accessories. Fitting the right anti-theft mechanisms to your trailer could even reduce the cost of your insurance premium.

Wheel clamps

Wheel clamps are a quick and easy way to secure your trailer, providing a strong visual deterrent to would-be thieves. Clamps not only prevent your trailer from being towed away by another vehicle, but also protect the wheels themselves by preventing anyone from accessing the wheel nuts. As wheel clamps completely immobilize your trailer, they can also provide additional stabilisation should you find yourself parked on an incline.

Hitchlocks attach to the coupling of your trailer and prevent it from being attached to another vehicle. Although such a device will prevent opportunist thieves from taking your property, more determined criminals might choose to bypass the hitch altogether. For this reason, we suggest in order to achieve optimal trailer security, it's best to use a hitchlock and wheel clamp together.

While it might be tempting to use a standard padlock in place of a specialised hitch lock, this will not provide the same level of protection. Well-equipped, determined thieves will usually have the means to cut through padlocks but are far less likely to be able to remove a hitchlock.

Hitchlocks are most effective if they are matched to a specific brand of trailer. We stock a range of models to fit trailers manufactured by the likes of Alko, Knott, Bradley and Avonride, to name a few. We stock wheel clamps from major manufacturers including Bulldog and Stronghold and have models suitable for a variety of tyre sizes.

Other options

We also stock a range of eyelocks that provide a high level of trailer security by placing a steel bolt through the towing eye, preventing it from being attached to another vehicle.

Other ways of securing your trailer include the use of more traditional chains and padlocks. You can also add an additional layer of security in your home through the use of lock posts or by upgrading the door locks on your garage.

If you have been the victim of an attempted theft or have concerns about the safety of your trailer, we understand that you want to be able to implement any solutions as quickly as possible. With our Earlybird service, we can deliver in-stock parts ordered before 3.30pm by the very next morning.

While additional safety measures are a strong deterrent and reduce your chances of becoming the victim of a crime, they work best in combination with other measures such as ensuring you park your trailer in a location that is well-lit and overlooked by properties or premises so that it would be impossible for anyone to remain unseen while stealing it. You should also be sure to record any serial numbers and make sure all your equipment is suitably marked so that, in the event of a theft, it is far easier for the police to return your items to you.

Although we have a broad range of trailer security and theft protection options available, it's important to ensure your trailer is secured in accordance with the specifications laid out by your insurance company as failure to do this may invalidate your policy.

Safety first

Staying safe on the road is every bit as essential as keeping your trailer secure and we have a range of accessories that can improve your ability to see other road users and to make your trailer more visible to others.

Reversing horns and alarms alert pedestrians and other road users to your actions, reducing the risk of an accident. Reversing cameras provide you with a clear view of what is directly behind you as you reverse your trailer, helping you to avoid damaging your trailer or someone else’s property. We also stock a selection of mirrors and mirror arms as well as contour tape which is available in a choice of colours.
